All storytimes take place in the Storytime Room in the back of Children’s Library.
Storytime develops important pre-literacy skills including vocabulary, print awareness, narrative skills, print motivation, phonological awareness, and letter knowledge.
Our programs combine these tools with the Five Simple Practices recommended by the Every Child Ready to Read Organization: talking, reading, singing, writing, and playing. All storytimes take place in the Storytime Room in the back of Children’s Library.

Our storytimes are carefully designed to provide your child with continuity and structure, so we recommend that you arrive 5 minutes before the start time. We do understand the challenge of getting young children out of the house, so feel free to join in quietly whenever you arrive, but please leave the strollers outside the room.
No food is permitted anywhere in our Children’s Room and drinks must be covered. We don’t recommend bringing toys into the room as it can be distracting.
We encourage all children to participate but don’t require it. Regular attendance will help them become more familiar with the routine and feel more comfortable joining in.
Parent participation is key. Your participation encourages your child’s, and helps in literacy development. We ask that you please silence cell phones and refrain from socializing until afterwards.
No, our storytimes are filled with movement and music, and children are encouraged to actively participate. That said, if your child is very unsettled or distressed, exiting the room can give them the time they need to settle down without disturbing others. You’re always welcome to return!
