Computers & Technology

Learn about library computers, Wi-Fi, technology classes, and tech items available to borrow.

Computers

Public computers are available on the second floor. Additional computers are available in the Children’s and Teen Rooms for their respective age groups. Printing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing services are available.

Software

Programs available on all PC computers:

  • Operating System: Windows 11
  • Office 2016 (Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word)
  • Internet browsers including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox
  • VLC Media Player
  • Windows Media Player
  • Adobe Creative Suite is available in the Creativity Lab. See the lab rules for details.

For security and maintenance reasons, we are unable to install any additional software on public computers.

 

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi is available in the building, as well as outside on the patio and the parking lot.

Select the HUDSON LIBRARY network. No password is required.

Technology Classes & Assistance

We regularly offer technology classes on a variety of topics. Check our calendar for upcoming events. We also offer one-on-one technology assistance.

 

One-on-one Technology Tutoring

We offer free, one-hour, one-on-one technology tutoring sessions. Topics for sessions are based on staff expertise and classes taught at the library. Sessions are offered Monday-Thursday and must be scheduled by appointment.  Call 330.653.6658 x1010 to schedule a session.

  • Microsoft Office 2016, 2019, Microsoft 365: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • iPad/Tablets/Kindles/eReaders
  • Downloading eMedia (books, audiobooks, magazines)
  • Social Media (Facebook & Instagram)
  • Google apps (Drive, Calendar, Gmail)
  • Windows 10 and 11
  • Mac basics
  • Web-based programs, including Canva, Wix and Mailchimp
  • Basic computing and internet skills
  • Library databases
  • Genealogy resources

If there is something listed that we do not currently teach, please ask when you call to schedule an appointment.

Topics we do NOT teach:

  • QuickBooks
  • Specialized, job-related software
  • Windows OS Errors
  • Software updates and computer repair
  • Downloading illegal software or any item that violates copyright law
  • Self-publishing programs
  • Resetting passwords, Apple ID, Microsoft login, etc.
  • Setting up cell phones and smartphones
  • Setting up and managing cloud-based storage

 Library staff reserve the right to decline a one-on-one session.
